In each case the creationist statements are shown to be outrageously stupid by even the most rudimentary knowledge of science.In this episode Jonathan Wells of the creationist organization The Discovery Institute is taken to task over his bizarre assertions that the inability of a burst cell to spontaneously reassemble means that abiogenesis must be impossible. The bacteria is a modern organism....the end product of 4bn years of evolution. It is a complex organism and as such can compete in the biosphere using the fast reproduction 'strategy'. The reason bacteria are around today is they are vigorous reproducers. Jonathan Wells seems to be attacking the proposal that 'MODERN bacteria were the first life on Earth', which is in reality a straw man that exists nowhere outside of Wells's mind. The reasoning is similar to that used by Ken Ham, that you don't get abiogenesis from blended frogs. All of this seems to be ignoring the key factor that the biosphere is a harsh competition. There is simply no niche where abiogenesis could get a grip where it simply would not be out competed by life that has been around for 4bn yrs.
how bout you work all the bugs out of the carbon dating prosess and get back to me. i know for a fact that it is not an EXACT science and therefore if there is an error in one part of a theory means the rest of your information is flawed.look at it this way. you have a beautiful car and you want it painted. if the painter leaves out the hardener for the paint then the job is not done correctly.ever build a model only to find one part is gone? you need all the parts to make it right.

Carbon dating isn't merely an "interesting process". It is a reliable scientific method for finding out the approximate date of an object and it's a hell of a lot more accurate than using the bible to find the age of the world.

yes, but this is spin related resonance.Carbon dating uses proportions of mother/daughter elements resulting from decay. That's why it is not 100% accurate, but it is still within exceptionally acceptable limits.The only problems that actually do arise are that you don't know quite the exact number of c14 atoms that were there. The other problem is that radioactive decay has a fundamental uncertainty (see uncertainty principle).But even so, the error is extremely low.

You can't say it's exactly one million years old, but you can probably say it's within one thousand years of being one million years old pretty confidently.

my point was that it isnt an exact science. you cant with any 100% certainty say that a bone is exactly 1,000,000 years old. however i do think that it is an interesting process in finding the 'date' it is too bad that there arent enough characters in the comment box or this would be an interesting conversation.

yes that is a well known fact. on that note i think is is ironic that witch hunts went on or were allowed in america when people came here in the first place to escape 'religious percicution' i mean not that i agree with witchcraft , but as long as they arent hurting anyone leave them alone right?just be glad we dont live in the times of the inquisition though. we would all be getting tortured.
