There is a very strong philosophy behind. The more traditional ones are expounded in the works of Bhagvad Gita,Siva Sutras,Patanjali Yoga Sutras,Supreme Yoga, etc. Sri Aurobindo's work gives a very excellent perspective from the modern point of view Also Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also has some real good perspective to offer. These are just a few of the myraid available.Kindly take some time to explore these as well. Thank you and have a good time.

jamesharrel it nice to hear that you had success on the physical level, just a piece of unsolicited advice: feel free to explore the overall premise within which this system has been imparted over the centuries.

Sri Krishna said in chapter 4: I revealed this immortal Yoga to Vivasan(Sun God);Vivasan conveyed to his son Manu(his son); and Manu imparted to his son Iksvaku. Thus transmitted in succession fron father to son,Arjuna, this Yoga remained known to Rajarishis(royal sages)And every time this knowledge is lost he comes back and imparts to the world in the form of Vishnu Avatar or Shiva avatar. It is good to know that westerners are taking this up.I hope they understand the original intent of Yoga.

lol. you sound like you are stuck in the 15th century with your silly talk about people being untouchables.otherwise, the video is a bit hokey.

Oh please. This form of yoga is really just stretching and strength building.Should people from other countries not be allowed to stretch?
Ooga001(July 4, 2009 at 8:29 pm)
You've "studied" Hinduism? Who allowed you? I presume you're an untouchable (westerner) so there is no way you studied Hinduism at all! Of course, other untouchables (westerners) "teach" some garbage they think is called Hinduism in schools so if you are alluding to that, well, you have learnt absolutely NOTHING about Hinduism!
Ooga001(July 4, 2009 at 8:25 pm)
It is very unfortunate that untouchables (westerners and other non-Hindus) are allowed to learn&practice yoga, even if it is just Hatha Yoga.tsk tsk, it is Kali Yuga!

As a yoga instructor, I'm embarrassed to say that this appears to be a visual inventory of all the things I'll never be able to do.
