Canadian Tenor Franco Tenelli sings Don Jose's ariaWhen the company has departed, the smugglers Dancaïre and Remendado enter. They have business in hand for which their regular female accomplices are essential ("Nous avons en tête une affaire"). Frasquita and Mercédès are game, but Carmen refuses to leave Seville: she is in love. Her friends are incredulous. José's song is heard in the distance. ("Dragon d'Alcala"). The smugglers withdraw. Carmen tells José that she has been dancing for his officers. When he reacts jealously, she agrees to entertain him alone (Finale: "Je vais danser en votre honneur"). Bugles are heard sounding the retreat. José says that he must return to barracks. Stupefied, Carmen mocks him, but he answers by producing the flower she threw and telling her how its faded scent sustained his love during the long weeks in prison (Flower Song: "La fleur que tu m'avais jetée"). But she replies that he doesn't love her; if he did he would desert and join her in a life of freedom in the mountains. When, torn with doubts, he finally refuses, she dismisses him contemptuously. As he leaves, Zuniga bursts in. In jealous rage José attacks him. The smugglers return, separate them, and put Zuniga under temporary constraint ("Bel officier"). José now has no choice but to desert and join the smugglers.
Before I saw this, I never heard of you. But now I'll certainly remember you!!! This brought tears to my eyes! Your wonderful!!!

most teachers are not not intelligent communicators, their technical descriptions/methods/concepts are wrong, or they want you to "teach" them!they listen for a magic "tone" in the hopes that they will hear it and say, "ok, do that again, that was right!" as a big voice, [very misunderstood] you need 2 basic technical tools and the way to apply them. there is hope, the way exists, and you can get there..

Very interesting...so basically singing full voice would convey more the emotion of despair because Carmen doubts his love just before this aria. This despair results in the murder of Carmen.Singing in falsetto would convey more Don Jose's vulnerability toward Carmen. But this emotion would be contradictory to the end of the opera where he finally kills her (and therefore shows strength).Do you agree with this statement?

Good question:)I could've done in falsetto-have no problem with it and it's written pp by Bizet-most proper would be in mezza voce-but when you sing the role, mezza voce is not very secure way for this phraze.(in studio or concert it's easier)so chosing between falsetto and full voice-I prefered full voice because I imagine myself in saying the phraze "I was (just) a thing to you"-"et 'j'etais une chose a toi"I'd never say it whispering:)

Hi Maestro,I know that some tenors sing the final B flat in falsetto. But most of them sing it in chest voice. I'm interested in the differences of interpretation and its consequences on expressivity.I would like to know if there is a special reason why you chose to sing the final ascent to B flat in chest voice or not to sing it in falsetto? Did you think of how the audience may perceive the meaning of the text with a chest voice (appogio ) technique, instead of falsetto singing?Thank you

big voices mature later then smaller:if you seen my science of singing with British soprano:she confesses she only found her voice recently:)well,I don't know anybody in Detroit who teaches the way I do because every teacher has it's own way but if you have the chance to come to Montreal we may settle couple of lessons

Maestro Tenelli I wish I would have the chance to study with someone like you.

I watched your lessons on open throat and appogio lower body connection. This makes such since. Most of my teachers did not know what to do with my voice because it was so large.I now feel that their is hope for my voice now that I am 43 and I have not damaged it. I live in Detroit and need a teacher that can teach your concepts. When my voice began to crack at 18 I did not want to persue opera anymore. I believe the voice has settled now. Can you help?

Carmen is the most prettiest. The acceleration of 'je me prenais...'can get improved, as the pp and final regulators. Nice color of voice. Congratulation, teacher
