As far as being kidnapped and imprisined being captured by the pirates doesn't seem as bad as what our government is doing. Would you rather be captured by pirates or captured by the U.S. as a detainee at Guantanamo.

Buccaneers where commissioned pirates that where hired by Governments, mainly France. Pirates didn't have commissions granted by a king, they robbed for themselves, that is why they where so popular, they where free and democratic opportunistic revolutionaries, and they fought for more than booty but for freedom and equality as well.
