That would depend on what part of gay cutlture we are talking about.I think Ol'; Ted could do quite a bit of good in certain elements;)

What place does Ted Bundy have in gay culture? Enlighten me.
thomascrown559(May 7, 2009 at 5:15 pm)
WEll according to that logic, then Ted Bundy has is place in our culture as well.I am just saying that I find drag queens an annoying nuisance. Not that that they should be removed from the planet.

I'm saying they have their place in our community and our history. Just as Rock Hudson does. And, from my personal perspective, I'm less willing to discount the out, loud and proud drag artists than I am a closeted rich movie star hiding behind hyper-masculinized straight privilege. Many people were out for years before Rock Hudson, many out people died from AIDS before he did and -- being out and queer and facing the consequences and the joys myself -- they matter more to me than he does.

So really...You enjoy loud, drunken, mostly meth-infused Madonna and Cher fans calling other menbitches" and acting like obnoxious morons?
ladyjane52983(May 2, 2009 at 7:52 pm)
I'm merely serving a counterpoint argument here. From your comments you seem to have a problem with people in drag. And while we're discussing history, it was a buttload of people *in drag* that fought in the Stonewall riots. The second wave of the gay rights movement (if we argue that the Mattachine Society and Daughters of Bilits were the first). I'd say that's a pretty hefty contribution.

is your main issue with closeted gay people? That is what you seem to be basing your arguments on.So if thy aren't "out" then they are no good to the community?
ladyjane52983(May 2, 2009 at 3:49 pm)
Wow. So the best thing he ever did for us was die from AIDS (without saying a word about having it until he was on his deathbed in a hospital hooked up to a bunch of painkillers)? Tremendous. And if that's the case, I'd say we owe more to that old drag favourite, Elizabeth Taylor. She was the one who went into overdrive after his death, campaigning for federal money for AIDS research.
thomascrown559(May 2, 2009 at 6:26 am)
No? Considering that he brought the entire World's attention to a disease that was only talked about in folklore; I would say we owe a TON to him.

They've got it. No puritanical ratings cap for them, unlike Blockbuster.
