Went through my late teens with this song. Made all the parties! Several other good versions - in A Life Less Ordinary - but the best non-Darren one is Keven Kline in French Kiss. In my humble view!

The original lyrics are " My lover stands on golden sands And watches the ships that go sailin." Bobby sings in this version "My lover stands on Tommy Sands" a reference, they say, to singer Tommy Sands' marriage to Nancy Sinatra.

OMG I just realized he said, "I hadn't oughta messed with your daughta", when he was dating Connie Francis her father chased him out of the house with a gun and told Connie he was a show business bum!! She related this in an interview on here somewhere! He wanted to marry her, and asked her to elope after one of her shows.
