The US is a Republic, and thus the popular vote will never supercede the electoral vote, ever.Nobody really wants it that way, Democrat or Republican, anyhow.Benefits of a Republic include minoirites not being marginalized and exploited, and of course.. less bureaucracy, less corruption etc..

Hey, before you go changing the electoral college, you should know that it goes both ways. Many historians now attribute the 1960 Presidential election of John Kennedy to the electoral college. In other words, "Camelot was made possible by the electoral college."Further, if you want to talk about voting irregularities, then you can point to just about every election to find them. Let me say this, both sides do it, but Democrats have it down to a science.

Probably, but it really is the best way to insure that less populated states still have some pull with the candidates.Consider this: How much time do you think a candidate would devote to midwestern and mountain states if we had a system based only on a popular vote?The answer is none! All any candidate would need to do is spend there time in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, etc. If they won them, they'd win it all. The rest of the country would have no say.

what about nebraska and maine?they split the electors based on who wins the district plus two for whomever wons statewide.
