Anne Bancroft had won the previous year (Best Actress for THE MIRACLE WORKER) but was unable to attend, so this year (1963) she presented the Best Actor category.

To ignore or misunderstand the depth of pain and malice associated with the word "nigger" is irresponsible; Do not deny the atrocities and inhumanities of Slavery.
HiFiMachine(June 8, 2009 at 1:20 pm)
The word is paradigmatically ugly, racist and inflammatory. Obviously, you are unaware of the historically negative effects the word "Nigger" has had in society, it recalls painful memories of the timeswhen my ancestors were lynched, burnt to death and subjected to the worst crimes of humanity to crowd chants of burn nigger burn, or "die nigger die."

It totally Agree! Especially on this point:"Or how about white people that immigrate from Africa to the US?"
