the song, Nora was written by Sean O'Casey but it was set to the tune of When You and I were Young, Maggie, Over the years, this song was called Maggie, thus the misunderstanding,

I spent ages identifying him in response to a comment on another posting* - are You related?(*Think it was a St Paddy's Day Open Air concert in London "I'll Tell Me Ma" the acoustics or recording didn't do him any favours)

HelloThe words are completely different. The melody is the same.George Washington JohnsonWrote a song called " When you and I were young Maggie".This was set to music by James Austin Butterfield. You can here this if you look up John McCormack "When you and I were Young maggie" on You tube. When Sean O'Casey wrote his play "The Plough and the stars " he wrote the song Norah and used the melody from "Maggie" Hope this helps. Willie

There's a song with the same tune, but different words called "When you and I were Young, Maggie". Sean O'Casey took that tune and changed the words for his play "The Plough and the Stars" where the woman's name is Nora and the song is for her. The people singing these words with the name Maggie are just confusing this song with the other
