One of the coolest Cult Kids TV shows. A Japanese version of a Chinese folk tale dubbed into English, the folk tale was used to explain the virtues of the noble life.
Brilliant show. Loved this as a kid. It was great to buy the series on Video then DVD by Fabulous Films; the DVD's especially as the DVD's contained the 13 epsidoes from the second series that the BBC never bought and consequentially never had dubbed/broadcast. And then i got the re-release of those episodes last year in a special set that was dubbed by the same people who dubbed the original episodes. Awesome.

aahhh, what memories! Running around the garden with a home-made monkey-magic stick trying to summon flying clouds by waving my fingers across my mouth!! Never did manage to summon one, but never stopped me trying (till this day!)

My brother and me where banned from watching it as kids, as soon as the end credits game up and the closing song started, we used to look at each other and then try and kick the hell out of each other using the monkey magic. We destroyed half the furniture in my parents living room scrapping.

Its the dubbing that made the show so memorable imo.

I have the 45 RPM single of the main theme, and end credits theme in both languages which I loved "In Ghandara". Watching these credits after all these years was an amazing feeling, all the script came back to me as he said it. I feel like I knew these guys, like they were family. It's like meeting lost lost family members seeing them again! Thanks.

Amazing, especially when I found out that Monkey was actually Bob Cratchet from the musical film scrooge starring Alec Guiness and Albert Finney.

Was that sarcasm? And do you even know what I meant when I said standards were low?Apparently, your terminology is rather lacking. What you said, has NOTHING to do with what I said. Unless you're a complete idiot, you better think a bit more clearly. I was saying back then the TV shows were better.Standards today, won't show any of the type of stuff we saw back then.Do you compute? Mr. Low?

Damn right.I'm having MAJOR trouble finding the WHOLE series sound track though, u know, fight music etc.I think there was an album but only in Japan and its VERY hard to find, not sure if that has all the instrumental stuff though.Classic show with a great soundtrack. The Japs love their prog.
