I personally didn't know there was a musical until after I had finished reading the book. So in a way, I fell in love with the book first. Of course, the musical will always be my favorite Broadway show.

Just because you enjoyed the book doesn't mean their opinion is null and void and you have to be so defensively rude about it. I have read it and I liked it, but I have read better written books as well. He gave it a different perspective and I liked it for that. And I actually feel the book is much better than the musical, but then again I know people who feel different about that as well, and that is fine.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I'm sorry, the book was FAR from terribly bad. It has sold over 3 million copies to say the least. It took a 'family favorite', The Wizard of Oz and gave it spark and life. Gregory Maguire reinvented such well defined characters, gave them depth and personality. You say it's dull? Why because it's sophisticated, it uses big words? I suggest you go back to reading Harry Potter, the themes suggested in WIcked must be too advanced for your capacity.

everything stephen schwartz touches turns to gold... even his shows that have never been on broadway are broadway worthy
