MARIAN ANDERSON.1939.LINCOLN MEMORIAL.HISTORY! FILM.
Famous appearance and performance, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, USA. 1939.SEVENTY YEARS LATER,almost to the day, at the OPPOSITE end of the Mall, we have the Inauguration of Barack Obama!!!!Some in the immense throng must have reflected on this historical 1939 appearance.REFUSED ENTRY TO THE CONSTITUTION HALL BY THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION due to her colour.Eleanor Roosevelt resigned in protest, and spoke to a member of her husband's government re alternative venues. The government offered her this Great Memorial.Singing, 'My Country'Tis of thee'.The crowd was immense,as far as the eye could see---almost to the CAPITOL.Accompanist,Kosti Vehanen.I live in Scotland,UK,and was told about the Lincoln Memorial Concert in my World History syllabus !
I still can't believe that I actually stood on the Lincoln Memorial back in January. I walked on hallowed ground. I stood exactly where my where some of the greatest men and women in our nations history had stood in their day.

Moved by her performance, Sibelius invited them to his home and asked his wife to bring champagne in place of the traditional coffee. Sibelius commented to her of her performance that he felt that she had been able to penetrate the Nordic soul. The two struck up an immidiate friendship which further blossomed into a professional partnership, and for many years Sibelius altered and composed songs for Anderson to perform.

She spent the early 1930s touring throughout Europe where she did not encounter the racial prejudices she had experienced in America. In the summer of 1930 she went to Scandinavia where she met the Finnish pianist Kosti Vehanen who became her regular accompianist and her vocal coach for about 10 years. She also met Jean Sibelius through Vehanen after he had heard her in a concert in Helsinki.

Seeing this makes me proud to be both an American and an opera fan. Anderson led the way not only for other great singers such as Price and Norman, but for all artists, all minorities, all Americans.

She worked together with finnish accompanist Kosti Vehanen and visited several times in Finland too. Vehanen familiarized Marian to music of Sibelius too. And actually i just checked in wikipedia that Vehanen was acconpanist also in this Lincoln Memorial concert.

Robt. Gallo modified the A.I.D.S. virus, as C.I.A. germ warfare doctors are apt to do. De-populating equatorial Africa is the goal. W/concerns to all things rational: Density Americans possesseth, nay profundity! Humans contemplate the Heavens. This fact, 1 would hope, is enough to prove our worth above the "endangered" kangaroo rat, bald eagle&West Indian manatee. "Atheists" have matters legislated otherwise. Simply possessing an eagle's feather will buy the bearer a federal prison sentence.
