Aug 2004What happens when those who've grown up on Hollywood war movies and graphic video games are sent to the frontline?"It's the ultimate rush -- you're going into the fight with a good song playing in the background," states one soldier. This is a war fought by the first playstation generation. As Rolling Stones journalist Evan Wright explains: "One thing about them is they kill very well in Iraq."Produced by ABC AustraliaDistributed by Journeyman Pictures
Agreed. This is my generation at war. And they've been digitally killing for over a decade so naturally it's going to implant certain notions of what death is like. This is the most desensitized generation of American soldiers to enter combat. The youth of America aren't learning 123 abc now days, they're instead learning you can shoot a hooker after you screw her, get back your money and run half a city block over with a car and shoot the other half. They're being groomed to kill.

ArtemesUSN: Ever been a "grunt"? Ever humped that "pack" with all the amenities for 25-35 miles on a regular basis? Ever set up a FARP, observation point/Listening point? Ever walked point? Call for fire? Land navigation at night? Ever set up an ambush point? Ever break down Browning .50 Cal., M-243, M-203, M-16? Shoot an azimuth? I give Corpman credit. However, "if you ain't a grunt, you ain't shit".

I doubt u ever served with the way you talk, so others that served in different ways are not worthy?

For those servicemen who are serving in Iraq, it isn't good enough. For those servicemen who are in the Infantry, I salute you. You carry the whole weight of the war on your shoulders while others in the rear collect a paycheck and have a cot to sleep in. "If you ain't a grunt, you ain't shit". Its those grunts who should get all those promotions and credit.

lets be honest guys , we invaded their country to get their resourses ...and we think its weird they hate us ...its pure imperialism of america , just like vietnam or the second worldwar

I served in the USMC from 86-94. Things were becoming ever more difficult for the "grunt" who was expected to do more with less. As an 0331 and 0313, I observed more and more of this I wanna be a Marine, but not infantry mentality. Us grunts were far and few between and it seemed to be taken over by lifers who never spent time in the field. However, they got promoted real fast. Too many people "in charge". Thats why we will lose this war. "If you aint a grunt, you aint shit". I mean that, too.

exactly , they are all good people being given bad info ... so they do bad things

In a videogame, you shoot someone, they die, and that's it.in real life you're still alive after being shot and your guts are hanging out.If a videogame is giving you wrong info, how can you say it is not conditioning you to think a certain way even if that though is immediately changed after seeing something like that.sure people have a choice, but if they're given the wrong information about the choices they're about to make, they might make a choice that is ultimately destructive.
