The first technique might not work well on a bigger caliber gun with a slide top(semi-auto). The pressure from the explosion is like seriously 30,000 pounds, that sliding top will still slide when the gun is fired leaving the defender with a bad grip or cut up hand.

i would be concerned about him firing when you grab it, even if you dont get hit if grab the slide it could chop your fingers off.
