The War On Democracy is a powerful new documentary from award winning journalist and film-maker John Pilger. It was released in UK cinemas from Friday June 15th 2007 and is out on DVD now
The United States has very powerful elites, very INTELLIGENT people that won't give up control of the world. There will be a true democracy when the U.S. loses control, and a new humanistic oriented system be installed, where individualism and competition are not the incentives to innovate or develop technology. Instead, the incentive should be helping others and provide positive externalities for society.Pretext? the selfish gene we all have, the worst illness that should be eradicated.

I agree that bureaucrats interfere with a genuine democracy. That said, you didn't answer my two questions.i.e. How does allowing a welfare mother with six kids to vote on government spending benefit us?How does allowing ex-convicts to vote on proposals to increase criminal penalties and enforce existing criminal laws work to benefit us?

But you do have term limits and young Bush was only in office for two terms. The problem I suspect with the US international policy have been the un-elected bureaucratic officials that advise politicians - these are people who have influence over consecutive governments, who aren't elected, and are pretty much the same kind of people you in a socialist bureaucracy. I suggest it is the bureaucratic elite in both systems that are the problem, not the democratic system itself.

You didn't answer the two questions :)And when you do come back, name an example of a country that has the 'safeguard' you describe. Here in the USA, the "lifer" career politicians snivel that we "need" their expertise and that term limits are harmful.

A safeguard in democracy that isn't seen in other political systems in that leaders generally don't stay in power for more than a decade. Totalitarian leaders may have started as revolutionaries, but they inevitably become corrupted by the addiction to power. In a healthy democracy there is generally a swing in ideologies, so even when the people get it wrong, there is a swing the other way eventually. This doesn't happen in totalitarian ideologies until social consensus builds up to revolution.

American Democracy has failed. The supporters claim democracy gives power 'to all' the people. The detractors, such as myself, say it has failed because "all" the people don't know what they are doing&then vote on matters that bankrupt us as a people.i.e. How does allowing a welfare mother with six kids to vote on government spending benefit us?How does allowing ex-convicts to vote on proposals to increase criminal penalties and enforce existing criminal laws work to benefit us?

songwriterdad - no the movie is explaining that the american government is imposing dictatorships on countries to preserve their power that they have over the economy and resources of that country and using words like democracy, terrorists and communists as propoganda to try to justify what they do... i guess you are probably an american then?

If you want to watch this movie you can watch this video for free on line I do not recommend you waste your money on it. I have never seen such a massive distortion of the facts in my life. The movie is trying to say that the way to promote Democracy is to promote the Communists.

But what exactly are you willing to do against your government? Anyone who tries gets killed or disappears. You cannot have victory without sacrifice. People just say "we should do this&that", but at the end of the day, they do nothing!

Raising awareness against such systems is one thing, but fighting it is another. Tupac Shakur tried to fight it, and in a few years he just disappeared. He is one American that you should be proud of.

If I was you (or in America), I would waste no time organizing a unit to dismantle zionists Americans (and their democracy). You do realize that the Federal Reserve system in the US is a direct violation of the American constitution, right?
