Al Stewart Is a great songwriter, without doubtBut I have to disagree that there are no good songwriters coming through who aren't just in it for the money I could name half a dozen off the top of my head, who would fit the Al Stewart mould.bur to get you started check out Steph Macleod and Chris Barrett aka The Pookah for 2 fine young singer songwriters

Ken, sadly you are right. It is all about the money. No talent, no problem!

Just reading the comments below...I have been a fan of Al since the mid seventies and finally met him 2 years ago after he played Vicker St..They say don't meet your heroes,Well Al has been one of mine for most of my life...true he is so camp that he should be gay but far from it he is a family man and more interested in fine wines, history, philosophy and poetry.Still loves his music and now plays as a dou with Dave Nachmanoff who is an absolute gent.

YEAR OF THE CAT was released in 1976, actually. But what's a 'year' (pun intended) among friends?Agreed, people don't write music of this caliber anymore. Marillion is the only exception I can think of. Al combined inventive melodies&excellent musicianship with wide ranging, evocative lyrics that painted a vivid picture in the listener's mind. Smart people really connected to his music.Back then, lots of artists made music for art's sake. Now it's mostly about money.

Al is a great talent and when he came with this Album in 1977 there was good music and lyrics too. On the border, the year of the cat, Time Passages...... People don't write music like this anymore......so sad

Caught Al Stewart performing last night in a small music venue in Austin, Tx. He played this song on acoustic guitar.

I really only appreciated "year of the cat". I look back now and realize how talented Mr. Al Stewart was. I'm a gay man now, but when I was young I thought his sound was so gay and I wasn't much of fan... Now I really love all the global influences of Al Stewart's music. Big, big fan now...
