Tokyo 1963. Trouble In Mind by The Cannonball Adderley Sextet. This number was a feature for Yusef Lateef on oboe; with additional solos by Joe Zawinul - piano; and a rare chance to see bassist Sam Jones stretching out. Louis Hayes is on drums. ..... And although not playing on this clip, the sextet also obviously includes Cannonball Adderley on alto sax with brother Nat Adderley on cornet.

Well, uh...he played a King, tenor that is. ;-) But no, he's a great multireedman and still blowing at age 88, I believe.

Thank you TRBrownn! I like the joyful style of Cannonball Adderley, but as an Italian Prog Band's titles on of his album: "abbiamo tutti un blues da piangere" - "we all have some blues that make us cry"
TRBrownn(March 13, 2009 at 2:29 am)
It's an 8 bar blues.

Only the "mystical" Mr. Yusef Lateef could make an "Oboe" cry the blues like that. Such a distintive sound. I love the "London Bridge is falling down" take at 2:40 reminds me of the old John R days in Detroit. Thanx for the post Bob.

This is great, Bob, I could listen to Sam Jones forever. And it´s in this band, for this listener, Zawinul has done his best jazz playing and not in any weather predicting units he´s been involved sinceAny more from this concert ? (other than "Jessica")
