The only skewed fact is when they stated, in 2013 a supercomputer will exceed the computation abilities of the human brain. That is false, unless they are talking about quantum computers. It is impossible for a binary computer to exceed the computation abilities of the human brain. A binary computer can only have a one or a zero, A quantum computer on the other hand can have a one or a zero or both at the same time.

I most definitely agree Brutesleuth... complacency is truly the U.S. downfall currently. I assume we will step up in the near future.. if we haven't become too set in our ways.

competition is the basis to economic and technological growth. w/out there would be compacency and monopoly and no growth. I agree with our influence, all of these modern invention,i.e., google, social networks, are made in U.S.A. But now, with this so called 'shift', of which the globe seems to be a bit capitalistic by nature, we can open our eyes and become competitive again, hopefully.

also.. you'll notice that most the countries competing.. such as Great Britain have remarkably small populations in comparison. Sweden is made to be a big deal lately.. - it has a population of 9 million.. not much more than New York... In my opinion the larger the country the more likelihood of huge diversity.. more of a ratio between the rich/ poor and smart/ ignorant...this ruins averages. China has a great GDP.. mainly due to them making everything we use. My point is.. its not that simple

The question would be..... why are the chinese learning english? It seems to me that whatever the stats.. the U.S. and the European communities still have the strongest influence... and as far as who will have the strongest influence tomorrow.. only time will tell. Although... I'm not so sure it matters. Seems competition is just in everyones blood... guess that's why capitalism has had so much success.

well yeah don't know where the stats are...but this year China has made it mandatory for every student from grade1 all through college to learn English, before I think it was from grade8. I don't think the quality of English doesn't compare to India, but China has only recently accepted foreign teachers in long numbers. Time will tell.

I would love to see evidence where it says China will be top English speaker in the world because the way I see it, India will be, and already is, the number one speaker of English, above America.India has been ruled by Britian and I am almost certain every college and university has English as a medium of instruction. Compare this with China where only top Unis such as Tsinghua or Peking offering courses in English, I believe the info here is false.
