I've found that the change happens in the middle of the decade and still lasts a decade. '55-'65 rock 'n' roll Elvis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, etc.,; '65-'75 Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Who etc.,; '75-85 punk, new wave, you know who; '85-'95 birth of digital and CDs; '95-'05 renaissance and a millenium party; '05-present - digital download and youtube era. It's all rock 'n' roll. Until the diamond needle era died.
