Well I wasn't arguing about the driving skills of individual people in India, that would be impossible to judge! I was just disagreeing with your comment: " India does not suffer even a fraction of road fatalities that western countries do." And I think those other contributary factors you mentioned are exactly what this video is demonstrating. Simply put if India wants to reduce road fatalities a more advanced test might be a good start!

The stats don't reflect the driving skills of Indians. They reflect the poor quality of roads, absence of lanes, poor road safety standards, and a crumbling infrastructure in general. I repeat, if you think you're a good driver because you drive in North America, you should try and drive one week on India's roads without accident. Besides, the other posters didn't bother to research the stats and were commenting without any basis. You did, so you get brownie points for that.

And for anyone who can't be bothered to read all that I'll make it simple. Per 10k vehicles India has a death rate 10x that of the USA, 13x more than the UK and over 16x worse than Japan. So please don't mistake knowing the facts with being arrogant!

Statistics from 1995 EGRF Regional analyses HMCs. The 1st number is "Road deaths per 100000 pop". The 2nd "Motor vehicles per 1000 pop." And the 3rd "Deaths per 10,000 motor vehicles": USA 15.8, 787, 2 UK 6.1, 408, 1.5, Japan 7.9, 669,1.2, Germany 10.7, 559, 1.9 India 6, 31, 20 Those stats show that India only had (in 95 remember, the figures are worse now!) 13% of vehicles per capita than the UK but almost the same amount of road fatalities. Meaning you're very wrong.

.... higher rate of road casualties than several countries, including US, Japan, Canada, Australia and Germany."...."In this country of 1.1 billion people, an estimated 270 people die each day from road accidents" Statistics do show that India has (or HAD in 1995) a lower percentage of road deaths per capita than Western countries but you seem to have completely disregarded the amount of vehicles on the roads in those countries. Let me help :)....

Yes, we're all arrogant morons. Still here's some headlines for you: "India tops chart in road fatalities- Over 85,000 road fatalities are reported in Indian every year, making it the most dangerous nation to drive in, according to statistics released by the Loss Prevention Association of India."... " India has the dubious distinction of registering the highest number of road-accident fatalities, second only to China, according to The Times of India"...."India has a far...
screambio84 (July 4, 2009 at 4:23 am)
There are more fatalities from road accidents on our canadian and US roads than those in India. Check the numbers.
ISIpaki (July 3, 2009 at 3:14 pm)
This explains why india has more fatalities on roads then any orther country in the world.
gamercube (July 3, 2009 at 9:25 am)
Inspite of such so-called "non-existent" driving skills, India does not suffer even a fraction of road fatalities that western countries do. Maybe a driver from the western world should try and drive in India, where there are no lanes, manual gears, and basically a free for all......and I'd be surprised if they went a week without an accident. Arrogant morons.
