The lead singer is called Alex Kapranos they are indeed Scottish. Franz Ferdinand was the last Archduke of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who got killed by rebels which sparked the First World War which led to the breakup of the Austro-Hungarian empire and the Germans giving up the Sudeten Land to the French; ultimately the instigator for World War Two.
