For those Costa Ricans who don't know the truth about what goes on or has gone on in your country - that you should DO SOMETHING ABOUT! Let me list some of them:1-the US has paid the Minister of Public Security in the past to allow shipments of cocaine to pass through Costa Rica (John Hull's ranch),2-the US built a temporary airfield in 1985 in northern Guanacaste for transporting cocaine to the US,US agents have access to all telephone conversations w/secret cooperation of Radiografica, etc, etc

This is a good example of how the US government tries to FORCE countries that NEED financial help, to become subservient to the wishes of the US and its economic and political objectives. The US plans to gain an almost military-like control over other countries using "economic force and greed". The US is using the promise of increased business and trade opportunities in order to unfairly take advantage of the urgent necessities of impoverished countries for increased income.

costa Rica is a wonderful country and should remain neutral for its own safety and peace. But the truth is that CR has allowed itself year by year, like so many other impoverished countries of Latin America and elsewhere, to become trapped in our State Dept's scheme to ultimately gain complete control and obedience to U.S. policies - by ensnaring them with dangerous foreign aid and trade agreements whose only real objective is to enrich the U.S. even further and control your laws and politics.

The proclamation of neutrality was a clever move under the Monge administration, it was the only way he could stand against Reagan by ensuring the backing of the whole world. So yes neutrality took place becuase of the events of the Reagan-Iran-Contra affair. Bottom line Reagan failed to militarize CR and we are proud that our small country and goverment stood up.

If you say so. How can you explain that and I quote. "The United States has cut certain forms of military and economic funding for several countries that have not signed bilateral Article 98 agreements. Countries who have so declined aid include Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,Trinidad and Tobago,Uruguay and Venezuela[42].Mali,Namibia,South Africa, Tanzania and Kenya publicly rejected signing Article 98 agreements in 2003.

Costa Rica not only has an army but it also has a substantial paramilitary group of patriotic Costa Ricans, trained by the US StateDept., with a huge cache of weapons buried in the ground at a dairy farm very close to San Jose, ready to go into action immediately in the case of a national crisis such as a golpe de estado or invasion from Nicaragua etc. CR also hosted the Southern Front of the Resistencia Nicaraguense, right in the Edificio Cristal downtown-that's not being NEUTRAL!Want much more?
4merCIA(April 1, 2008 at 4:29 am)
I'll answer w/2 posts.First, I love CR. 2nd,you are either a blindly patriotic CR who refuses 2 admit the truth, or one who hasn't had the opportunity 2 learn much about your own country, as is also the case w/most of my ignorant countrymen. YOUR COUNTRY DOES HAVE AN ARMY!-REGARDLESS of what Art 12 SAYS! N Costa Rica was NOT neutral during the years of fighting in Nicaragua!-wake up to real life! EVERY government LIES to its people, especially yours N mine! N OREJAS was 1 of the biggest liars.

4merCIA. For you to be an American and former CIA employee as you mentioned. You sound rather ignorant with regard of stating that CR has an army. Unless you are referring when the Reagan administration made an attempt to militarize CR by sneaking military personnel without our permission. This by the way offended Costa Ricans very deeply. Thank goodness we stood up and proclaimed our neutrality. By the way please read Costa Rican Constitution's Article 12. That will clarify any dilutions.
